Tuesday is the final day to order "Boston Strong" T-shirts at the Canton schools. The shirts are $15 and all proceeds will go to the One Fund Boston. To order a shirt submit the order form and check to the main office at one of Canton's public schools. Checks should be written out to Town of Canton. Students and faculty will have a district-wide recognition of the fundraising effort Thursday, May 23. Those who purchased a shirt will wear it that day. The program has been apart of Canton's public school system for more than three decades, and allows students the chance to balance classroom work and other responsibilities.
Canton's Program for Academic and Creative Enrichment, also known as the PACE Program, is offered to Canton Public School students who are gifted and talented in Grades 3-5. Students who are in the PACE Program, which has been apart of Canton for more than 30 years, must balance their classroom work and the program responsibilities. Dr. Robert Gruberman, PhD, took over the program in 2002, has taught everything from elementary to college classes, has done work in curriculum and in administration, and says he's always been fascinated with both the process of conceptualization and the development of higher-order thinking. There will be a two-hour delayed opening for Canton schools today, Tuesday, March 19, due to the winter weather. A bulletin alerting parents and studentswas posted on the Canton Public Schools website Tuesday morning. There will be no a.m. or p.m. half-day pre-school or half-day kindergarten, as well.

An information session will be held tonight at 7 p.m.
School officials will be holding a parent information session on the Canton Public Schools lockdown procedures Wednesday night, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m. in the Canton High School cafeteria. Canton Police Chief Ken Berkowitz and Detective Charles Yeaton from the Canton Police Department will join school officials in updating parents regarding ongoing enhancements to the district's current lockdown procedures. The meeting is open to the public. Discussions surrounding the program known as ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) have been ongoing and continued last month.

The Canton Finance Committee will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday night, Jan. 29, in the Salah Meeting Room at Canton Town Hall to discuss a variety of agenda items, including out-of-district special education tuition and Fiscal Year 2013 deficits, among other issues. Also among discussion tonight will be budget requests for Fiscal Year 2014 with the Canton Assessors Department, as well as FY14 Municipal Budgets. FinCom will address the attendance of members at meetings and vote to remove a member from the committee, as well.
