School Committee approves a team for middle school this season.
Middle school students will be able to try out for the new Galvin Middle School basketball team this season. At last week's School Committee meeting, members approved Middle School Athletics Coordinator Bill Bendell's proposal. The proposal moved money that had been budgeted for after-school activities to the new after-school sport. The proposal created a middle school boys and middle school girls interscholastic basketball team. Basketball players will be charged a $100 fee to cover costs, Bendell said. The team will include 12 boys and 12 girls, and try-outs will be held, he said. The committee debated whether or not giving the team the funding would be fair, considering the football team was charged with raising their own funds. "We …
