5 Things, Nov 21: Canton Public Schools Early Release Today

Thanksgiving recess begins today.

1. The Canton Public Schools have an early release today for Thanksgiving recess. There are no half day programs for Pre-K or for K. 2. The Canton Art Association is offering a Still Life Painting class from 10:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Canton Public Library.  3. The Village Toy Shoppe in Cobbs Corner at the Village Shoppes has Storytume at 10:30 a.m. The store will close at 6 p.m. for the Thanksgiving Holiday. 4. There is a Conservation Commission Meeting at 7 p.m. at the Pequitside Tavern, 79 Pleasant St., to go over the Current Agenda. Board of Selectmen Weigh Pros and Cons of Community Preservation Act

Cost and need debated at the Board of Selectmen meeting.

Canton residents could be paying an extra $42 a year to preserve the town. That is, if Article 39 on the Town Meeting Warrant is passed at Annual Town Meeting and is also approved at Town Election. The Board of Selectmen on Tuesday night debated the pros and cons of the article–which would adopt the Massachusetts Community Preservation Act. The board discussed whether the timing is right for the town to set aside funds to be used for community preservation–which includes historical preservation, affordable housing recreational areas and open space.
