Patrick, Kennedy to Speak at DNC Tonight

Gov. Deval Patrick is scheduled in the 9 p.m. hour.

The Democratic National Convention will have a Massachusetts feel tonight as Gov. Deval Patrick and Congressional candidate Joe Kennedy III are scheduled to speak before the convention. Kennedy is scheduled to speak during the 7 p.m. hour after a Kennedy family tribute video. Two hours later, Patrick is scheduled to finish the 9 p.m. hour. The night will also include a number of prominent speakers, including Senate Majority Leader Harry Reed, Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee, and Secretary of Health and Human Services Director Kathleen Sibelius and conclude with a speech by First Lady Michelle Obama. The Wall Street Journal published a full schedule of speakers.

Governor Patrick Signs Transgender Equal Rights Bill

The Massachusetts governor signed the bill this week.

Governor Deval Patrick signed H.3810, “An Act Relative To Gender Identity," historic legislation to legally protect transgender individuals from discrimination in housing, education, employment and credit. The new law, signed at the State House today, also provides additional civil rights and protections from hate crimes. “No individual should face discrimination because of who they are,” said Governor Patrick. “This legislation gives Massachusetts the necessary tools to stop hate crimes against transgender people and to treat others fairly. Canton May See Some Aid from Federal Government for Costly Winter Cleanup

Governor Patrick is seeking federal assistance to aid towns with the cost of winter storms.

Canton may be in for some relief from the snow-packed winter­–cost wise at least. Governor Deval Patrick made a request to President Obama for a major disaster declaration for several counties throughout the state, including Norfolk. The request would provide financial assistance to towns and cities “most impacted by the severe snow storm of January 12, 2011,” according to a press release from the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA.)  “Canton incurred significant snow removal and emergency services costs,” Canton Fire Chief Charles Doody said. “Hopefully some federal funding will help to pay for the winter storms.” Prior to this weekend’s snow, the town has spent $759, 257 on snow and ice cleanup. BPA, Go Away

Massachusetts has become the eighth state to ban the sale of baby bottles containing the toxic substance, Bisphenol-A.

On Thursday, Deval Patrick won his bid to ban the toxic chemical Bisphenol-A, or BPA, from all baby bottles and sippy cups sold in Massachusetts. BPA is a manufactured chemical commonly used in the substance which lines almost all canned food s and drinks.  It is also known as “polycarbonate” and is used in the plastic material in baby bottles, sippy cups and other semi-disposable plastic food storage products bearing the number 7 on its label. When BPA is leached from the inner lining of bottles and other plastic-wear, it enters the consumer’s bloodstream.   According to the Massachusetts Board of Public Health, which issued their first Public Health Announcement on the toxicity of BPA  in August 2009, the side effects of chronic BPA …

What a great idea- take your bottle to the dump day. Lol. Thankfully we have some regulation in our society for food safety, chemicals, etc but it is not up to the standards it should be.
