Name:  Matthew Magann Age:     12 School: Galvin Middle School Key to Awewomeness: Matthew qualified for the state Geography Bee that will be held on March 30 at Worcester State University. He is one of 100 students who qualified on the written exam. He also builds solar cars, collects coins and rocks and reads "Harry Potter." What was the winning question and answer in your school's Geography Bee?  There wasn't really one "winning question."  I was the last one standing when others all got their second question wrong (you get eliminated after getting two wrong). My hardest question was actually during the class round. It was "This island country, who's main ethnic group is Han Chinese, is located in the South China Sea."  I correctly …

Name: Courtland Priest Age: 12 School: Galvin Middle School Key to Awesomeness: Honoring all the expressions of himself. Accomplishments: Seventh grader Courtland Priest wanted a good grade on his assignment. But beyond that, he said he wanted to write a good poem that paid tribute to his Dad–who taught him all he knows about art. Principal LaLiberte Surprised with Honorary Gift

Retiring Principal Tom LaLiberte was honored for his contributions to the Galvin Middle School on Monday.

The entire student body and faculty of the Galvin Middle School surprised soon-to-retire Principal Thomas LaLiberte with an outdoor assembly in his honor.  On Monday, while Principal LaLiberte was in a well-planned meeting with Superintendent of School Jeff Granatino, over 200 appreciative fans, both students and teachers, gathered around a park-like bench built in his honor.  The Galvin Middle School chorus sang, and the band played the American Spirit March. Surprised, LaLiberte was paraded to the stone bench while students came up to a podium to conduct the ceremonies.  They presented him with a “Memory Box” created by the Art Department, as well as a farewell poem.  As the sun peeked through the otherwise cloudy day, the principal was …

Erica, Congratulations on your meaningful achievements, both at GMS and with your Bat Mitzvah project. I know you to be a conscientious student, and wish you well in your academic career as you go on to high school. I was unaware of the twinning concept. What a meaningful way to remember, and to acknowledge someone whose life was cut short by the Holocaust. Ms. S-A   more ›
