A recap of Thanksgiving football action in the Hockomock League.
If anything, Thanksgiving once again proved how exciting and unpredictable the Hockomock League can be. The League's two playoff teams both lost; Stoughton and Mansfield's long Thanksgiving win streaks were snapped, while Oliver Ames extended its streak; the King Philip/Franklin and Stoughton/Canton games came down to the wire, with the KP/Franklin game being decided in the final seconds, and with Stoughton/Canton being decided in overtime, and Foxborough orchestrated a second-half comeback vs. Mansfield. The other games were blowouts. Thanksgiving marked the end of the season for nine of the teams in the league, but Mansfield (Division 2) and Sharon (Division 3) will head to the postseason, playing in a semifinal game Tuesday night, …

Inside the numbers: A look at the series history between the two Thanksgiving rivals (statistics from the Hockomock League football website).
This upcoming Thursday’s Thanksgiving morning game between Stoughton and Canton marks the 87th consecutive time the two schools have gone head to head on the holiday. The rivalry dates back to 1926. Stoughton will play host to this year’s game (Thursday, Nov. 22, 10 a.m. at Stoughton High). Stoughton holds a 43-39-4 edge in the all-time series, aided by having won the past seven Thanksgiving games, dating back to 2005, including last year's 27-7 victory in Canton. The Black Knights will look to make it eight in a row this year. While Stoughton hasn’t always dominated the series - Canton won all but one game between 1976-1991 - the Black Knights have taken control of the series under head coach Greg Burke. Since 1995, Stoughton has lost …

A recap of Week 10 football action in the Hockomock League.
Turns out Thanksgiving football in the Hockomock League will just be for pride and bragging rights this year - both of the league's playoff berths were sewn up by the end of week 10. Mansfield (7-3), a perennial playoff threat, clinched the Hockomock League's Kelly-Rex (large schools) Division with a 28-21 win against visiting Franklin this past Saturday evening. Mansfield improved to 4-1 in the division, assuring the Hornets of at least a tie with King Philip, who is 3-1 heading into Thanksgiving. But, Mansfield has the head-to-head tiebreak, beating KP 46-33 on Oct. 20. And, Sharon (8-2), just two years removed from a 1-9-1 season, made history Saturday afternoon, clinching the Hockomock League's Davenport (small schools) Division with a…

A recap of Week 9 football action in the Hockomock League.
There was plenty of excitement this past Friday, week 9, in the Hockomock League, but just one of the games had an impact on the playoff race - the Kelly-Rex Division matchup between Taunton and Mansfield (a 35-14 win by Mansfield). However, week 10 on the Hockomock gridiron features key division showdowns between Sharon and Foxborough in the Davenport and King Philip/North Attleboro and Franklin/Mansfield in the Kelly-Rex. KP, NA, Franklin and Mansfield all have just one division loss, so the winner of those two games will have the upper hand going into the final game of the regular season on Thanksgiving. If Sharon beats Foxborough, the Eagles clinch the Davenport, but if Foxborough wins, Sharon, Foxborough and Stoughton will all be …

A recap of Week 8 football action in the Hockomock League.
While one of the Hockomock League's divisions has a somewhat clear playoff picture, the other is chaotic and wide-open, of course setting up what should be a thrilling final three weeks of the season. After week 8, Sharon, Stoughton and Foxborough have the most realistic path to a Davenport Division (small schools) title and with it a Division 3 playoff berth. The division title is based on a team's four-game division record at season's end. At 2-0 in division play, Sharon is in the driver's seat and Stoughton and Foxborough, both at 2-1, are right behind. Sharon has a head to head win over Stoughton and Stoughton has a head to head win over Foxborough. Sharon and Foxborough play Nov. 10. With Mansfield and Franklin both losing in week 8…

Canton fell to 0-2 in the Hockomock League Davenport Division after a 28-22 loss to Foxborough Friday night.
FOXBOROUGH – Penalties and turnovers proved to be costly errors for the Canton High School football team in a 28-22 loss to Foxborough Friday. Canton committed three turnovers - an interception and two fumbles - enroute to a frustrating, six-point loss to Hockomock League Davenport Division foe Foxborough. The loss drops Canton's division record to 0-2, making it nearly impossible for the Bulldogs to make the postseason this year. Canton was able to jump on the Warriors first, taking a 6-0 lead with 2:21 to play in the first quarter on an 11-yard run by running back Dexter Green set up by a 16-yard scamper by quarterback Ian Flavin. The extra point failed. Foxborough, as it seemed to do every time Canton scored, answered with a touchdown …

A recap of Week 7 football action in the Hockomock League.
Heading into week 7, it was fair to say King Philip and Stoughton, both undefeated, were the favorites in the Hockomock League's Kelly-Rex and Davenport Divisions, respectively. But after a crazy Saturday of Hockomock League football, filled with upsets and shootouts, new favorites have emerged. Canton had a week 7 bye, but all the other teams had division games, which meant all games had direct playoff implications. The division winners from the Davenport and Kelly-Rex advance to the postseason. In the Davenport, Stoughton fell at Sharon, 16-14, after Sean Asnes scored the game-winning touchdown with 11 seconds left. The win put Sharon in the Davenport driver's seat with a perfect 2-0 record. Stoughton is 1-1. Foxborough, meanwhile …
