Canton Police Remember Officer Rafael Centeno

The former Canton Police officer passed away last Friday. He served on the force in Canton for six years after nearly two decades on the Boston Municipal Police force.

Canton Police Officer Rafael Centeno passed away last Friday, Feb. 8, and in his honor, the Canton Fire Department has hung a black bunting below the Canton Police sign outside the building. A bunting is to honor the life of a loved one. Canton Police Sgt. Robert Gooley expressed his feelings over Centeno's loss. Gooley has been a member of the department for 20 years and also shared his shift with Centeno during the six years Centeno served on the force. "We were very good friends and worked together every day on the same shift," Gooley said. "He also was on mobile operations and rode a motor cycle. Rafael had a heart of gold and would never give any Canton resident a speeding citation, he would only give them a warning." He added, "…

PHOTO: The Blizzard of 2013 Leaves Mounds of Snow

The piles at the Cobbs Corner parking lots were enormous.

The aftermath of the Blizzard of 2013 left the Cobbs Corner parking lots with massive amounts of snow. These trucks were loading up and moving the snow elsewhere to make room for vehicles to park.

Even though it was raining, Patch spotted a few kids sledding.

  The Galvin Middle School hill on Pecunit Street has always been a popular sledding spot in Canton. There was no school on Monday and although it was raining, it didn't stop these kids from having fun sledding.

The Suffolk Grille Restaurant's Mary Breen

Did someone say cocktails?

  Patch caught up with Mary Breen, bartender at the Suffolk Grille Restaurant, 2790 Washington Street in Canton. Patch asked what is a favorite winter drink? Breen answered,"One of my favorite winter cocktails is also a delicious after dinner drink and it's called the oatmeal cookie martini." Not about to spill the beans on her oatmeal cookie recipe, Breen asks that you stop in and try one at the SUffolk Grille. What's your favorite cocktail? Let us know in comments.

Blizzard Snapshot: Cardinal in the Snow

A little cardinal rests on a branch during the weekend blizzard.

The enormous winds and continuous downpour of snow bore down on birds in the Canton area.  Canton Patch came across this little red cardinal high up in a tree near two bird feeders.
