The Canton School Committee is grappling with the Fiscal Year 2012 budget. On Thursday, the Superintendent of Canton Public Schools Jeff Granatino made a budget presentation to the committee. Currently, the School Committee is looking at a $31.7 million budget for Canton Public Schools and needs to cut about $1.3 million, School Committee Chair Reuki Schutt said. The expenses include a new roof for the Rodman building, a roof replacement for one section of the high school, the installation of fire sprinklers in the JFK School addition and HVAC improvements and maintenance. The School Committee is waiting to hear from the Massachusetts School Building Authority on whether or not they have received funding for the roofing work. If the town doesn't receive the reimbursements, the committee is able to "change our minds" on approving that portion of the long term …

Superintendent Jeff Granatino said there is no safety threat.
Superintendent of Schools Jeff Granatino said today that Canton Police and school officials are still monitoring the incident that gave the JFK School's staff and students a scare on Tuesday. "Police are still monitoring the situation," he said of the reported spotting of a stranger with a camera near the JFK School playground Tuesday. "There is nothing to give evidence that shows there is someone we should be looking for." Police have reached out to other communities regarding the incident, and the school has extra staff on hand during recess, along with some parent volunteers, to "keep an eye out," Granatino said in an interview with Canton Patch. Principal Jan Chamberlain has been speaking to several classes throughout the week, he …
