MassDOT Secretary Davey Asks NVCC Members to Support Transportation Bill

Davey was at the British Beer Company on Route 1 in Walpole Tuesday morning at a breakfast hosted by the Neponset Valley Chamber of Commerce.

MassDOT secretary and CEO Richard Davey was in Walpole Tuesday morning for a breakfast with members of the Neponset Valley Chamber of Commerce.  A day after the House passed a $500 million transportation bill to help balance MassDOT's budget gap, Davey was asking those in attendance, at the British Beer Company on Route 1, to support a much larger bill - about $1.9 billion - that would help fund transportation and education in the state. “What I really want you all to understand…is that the current transportation system we have we cannot afford. MassDOT Secy. on Transportation: ‘People Want More’

At the hearing, State Transportation Secretary Richard Davey outlined some aspects of Gov. Deval Patrick’s 10-year transportation budget plan, and included the need for new revenues.

The state transportation secretary answered legislator’s questions regarding the Green Line Extension and South Coast Rail projects, MBTA infrastructure and maintenance issues and how an ambitious 10-year budget plan will handle all of it.  Massachusetts Department of Transportation Secretary and CEO Richard Davey testified before the Joint Committee on Transportation Tuesday morning. He was there to more formally present Gov. Deval Patrick’s 21st Century Transportation Plan which calls for a $13 billion investment over the next decade. State Police Increasing Enforcement on I-93/I-95, Randolph-Dedham

State Police are increasing enforcement of breakdown lane use where new fourth travel lane has opened.

The following was submitted by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation. MassDOT and the Massachusetts State Police are reminding drivers traveling along I-93 and I-95 (Rte. 128) that use of the breakdown lane on I-93/I-95 (Rte. 128) has been discontinued in the area where the new fourth travel lane has opened. In late November, MassDOT opened a section of the new fourth travel lane along I-93 and I-95 (Rte. 128) between Route 24 in Randolph and a point just south of Rte. 109 near the Westwood-Dedham line.  The new lane is part of the ongoing project to eliminate an existing bottleneck between Rte. 24 and Rte. 9 in Wellesley by having four continuous travel lanes in each direction of interstate roadway from the junction of I-93 and I…

Traffic Pattern Changes on I-93/I-95 Commence Nov. 27

Construction to widen the I-93/I-95 (Rte. 128) between Randolph and Westwood will begin to come to a close as the new lane will begin opening.

The following information was submitted by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation: Beginning at 5 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 27, construction crews will begin to open the remaining portions of the newly constructed fourth travel lane on the section of interstate roadway between Randolph and Westwood. The project limits begin in Randolph on I-93 at the interchange with Rte. 24 (Exit 4). From there, the project extends west toward Canton Junction, where I-93 ends, and the roadway becomes I-95 (Rte.  128). Lastly, the project continues along I-95 (Rte. 128) to Rte. 109 (Exit 16) in Westwood. MassDOT Opens Fourth Travel Lane on Rte. I-93, I-95

The "Add-a-Lane" project received a bit of an update Wednesday, as drivers were able to begin use of the new lane, according to reports.

Starting Wednesday, Nov. 14, drivers along Rte. I-93 and I-95 in the Canton area will begin to see the benefits from the longstanding Massachusetts Department of Transportation's "Add-a-Lane" project.  Construction crews began opening portions of a fourth travel lane on the highway between Randolph and Westwood Wednesday morning, according to a report on WCVB.com Limits for the project begin on Rte. MassDOT Encourages Safe New Year’s Holiday Travel

Free MTBA service New Year’s Eve after 8 p.m., free coffee at service plazas in the Bay State.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) asks travelers during the upcoming New Year's holiday weekend to plan ahead, drive safely, and use public transportation where possible.  To encourage safe travel, the MBTA will offer free service after 8 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, and free coffee will be served overnight on New Year’s Eve at service plazas along major roadways.   “We ask all travelers visiting family and friends or celebrating the New Year at First Night in Boston or other activities to enjoy the holiday weekend safely by choosing a designated driver if necessary or taking advantage of public transportation,” said MassDOT Secretary and CEO Richard A. The Wednesday before and Sunday after Thanksgiving are the busiest travel days.

  Hitting the road for the Turkey Day holiday, folks? The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) wants residents and visitors to plan ahead for travel during the Thanksgiving week. Thanksgiving holiday traffic is expected to be at its peak today, November 23, and Sunday, November 27. I-90 Exit 9 connecting I-84 to Connecticut and New York experiences heavy traffic and busy toll plazas.
