Ice Skating with D.J. Dustin at the Metropolis Rink

Disco Music has you dancing on the ice.

  D.J. Dustin Antle spins tunes and provides a light show at the Metropolis Skating Rink for your listening pleasure. 'I knew when I attended my first school dance that I wanted to be a disc jockey at the age of 13,' said Antle. 'Then I went to college for radio and television production and have been a Disc Jockey for over 20 years.' Antle works with his father Gary at Gary Antle Productions. The company does stage work, lighting and sound, video judging, photography and dance competitions. PHOTOS: Students Enjoy Skating During Holiday Break

Now that school vacation is over, the regular schedule for ice skating times is back in place.

The Metropolis Skating Rink was a busy place over the school vacation holiday. And it's going to get busier now that the Canton Department of Recreation "Learn to Skate Program" begins on Jan. 8 and will run for eight weeks. The classes will run on Tuesdays: Jan 8, 15, 22 and 29. Feb 5, 12 and 26 and March 5. Sessions are at 4:30 and 5:30 p.m.  Fee for residents is $100, and non residents $110. Friday evenings from 7-9:15 p.m. Sunday afternoons from 2:30-4:15 p.m. Adults $3 and children $2. PHOTOS: Canton Girl Scouts Raise Funds at the Metropolis Skating Rink

Food was collected to be given to the Canton Food Pantry.

On Friday, Dec. 28, the Girl Scouts of Canton held a fund raiser at the Metropolis Skating Rink, 2167 Washington Street and collected food for the Canton Food Pantry. The Scouts included the Daisy Troop grades K-1, the Brownies grades 2 - 3 and the Girl Scouts grades 4 -5. All brought friends and family for an afternoon of ice skating and slush at the snack bar. There are more than 100 local girl scout councils nationwide. The first Girl Scout Troop was organized March 12, 1912 by Juliette Gordon Low in Savannah, Georgia. Today there are 3.2 million girl scouts which includes 2.3 million girls and 890,000 adult members working as volunteers for the most part. 5 Things Dec 17: Ice Skating, Zumba or Play n Learn

Countdown to Christmas begins right about now.

  1. Theres public skating from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. at the Metropolis Skating Rink, 2167 Washington Street. 2. From 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. there is a class at the Canton Public Library for pre school to  kindergarten children ages 3 - 6 called Play n Learn in the Library Art and Activities Room. 3. And at the same time, 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. the seniors can enjoy a class of ZUMBA at the Canton Public Library in the community room. 4. New Winter Hours at the Metropolis Skating Rink

Public Skating Hours every day.

Starting the day after Thanksgiving, the Canton Department of Recreation will increase the ice time for public skating at the Metropolis Skating Rink in Canton. Starting on Sunday, Nov. 25, there will be public skating from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. Meanwhile, starting on Friday, Dec. 5, there will be public skating from 7:30 - 9:20 p.m. On weekdays, there will be public skating Monday through Friday from 9:30 - 11:20 a.m. There are no skate rentals, but patrons can have their skates sharpened. 5 Things, Oct 22: Get Physical with Yoga, Biking and Ice Skating

The fall sessions through the Canton Department of Recreation start tomorrow. There's still time to sign up!

1. A game of Mah Jong will be held at 12:30 p.m. at the Canton Council on Aging. And then stay for Karoake at 2 p.m. 2. Yoga for Busy Moms starts tomorrow at the Armando Recreation Center from 9-10:15 a.m. Sponsored by the Canton Department of Recreation for ages 18-99. Fee: $96 for residents and $106 non-residents. Class runs for eight weeks. 3. Also starting tomorrow is Yoga for Wise Women at the Armando Recreation Center from 10:30-11:45 a.m. A gentle yoga class for beginners and women over 50 who want to get on the mat safely and securely.
