2013 Patriots Regular Season Schedule Announced; Welker Returns to Foxborough in November

New England Patriots will open 2013 season on the road against the Buffalo Bills on Sept. 8 followed by the home opener at Gillette Stadium on Thursday, Sept. 12 against the New York Jets.

The NFL regular season schedules are out and the New England Patriots are once again in the spotlight with five primetime games including a Thursday night game against the New York Jets Sept. 12 in the 2013 home opener at Gillette Stadium. Last season, the Patriots traveled to face the Jets in a Thursday game on Thanksgiving night at MetLife Stadium and earned a 49-19 victory. Three of the last four Thursday games for the Patriots have been against the New York Jets, with a home game in 2008, the Thanksgiving night game in 2012 and this year’s game Sept. 12, which will be televised on NFL Network (kick-off 8:25 p.m.). Submit Your Best Pet Photos in Time for Puppy Bowl IX

Super Bowl Sunday is also a favorite day for a group of dogs up for adoption. The annual Puppy Bowl will air at 3 p.m. on Animal Planet.

Super Bowl XLVII may be coming this Sunday, Feb. 3, but for those families with pets who aren't as interested in watching the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens go head-to-head, there's another sporting event to enjoy.  Animal Planet's Puppy Bowl IX will also take place on Sunday, and feature more than 30 dogs, each available for adoption. New this year, too, will be a group of hedgehogs to cheer on the pups.  The Puppy Bowl begins at 3 p.m. Eastern Time, and in celebration of the animal-themed event, we're asking Patch readers to submit photos of their pets. Canton Resident Makes Strides in Fantasy Sports Event

Christopher Pearce placed ninth in the DraftKings $250,000 Main Event on Sunday, Dec. 23, to coincide with NFL Week 16.

It was a good holiday season for one Canton resident and fantasy sports fan.  Christopher Pearce was named a top-place finisher in the nationwide DraftKings $250,000 main event on Sunday, Dec. 23, according to an announcement Friday.   Pearce placed ninth overall in a pool of 1,400 contestants in the event, hosted by DraftKings, a daily fantasy sports website that offers a variety of contests for fantasy football, basketball, and baseball, among other sports.  The Dec. 23 event, a one-day fantasy football effort for NFL Week 16, provided a chance for players to use their interest and knowledge on sports statistics and enter to win a share of the biggest cash prize of any open event in fantasy sports, according to Friday's announcement.  …
