A Canton man and local mortgage broker for Newman Financial Group pled not guilty on Wednesday to trafficking in marijuana and conspiracy to violate the drug law.

Auricelli Braga pled guilty Wednesday in Norfolk Superior Court to charges stemming from a June 2012 car crash which killed a 64-year-old Stoughton woman, according to the Norfolk County DA's office. Braga is not a legal resident of this country.
The unlicensed illegal immigrant drunk driver from Stoughton who crossed the center line of Rte. 138 in Canton on June 24, 2012, striking and killing Sara Escudero, a 64-year-old Stoughton woman, was sent to jail Wednesday, according to a press release from the office of Norfolk County District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey. Auricelli Braga, 32, from Stoughton, pled guilty in Norfolk Superior Court to both charges against her: Motor Vehicle Homicide by Negligent Operation while Operating Under the Influence and Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, according to the DA's office. “The judge imposed 2.5 years in the house of correction with two years incarcerated and the balance suspended during 5 years of supervised probation," Morrissey …

Canton Public Schools and Blue Hills Regional Vocational Technical School received quite a gift from Norfolk County District Attorney Michael Morrissey this week. As part of Morrissey's 2012 School Security Summit in Randolph, seven educators from Canton walked away with a grant of $2,000 for hand-held radios for high school personnel to communicate with one another and the Canton Police Department in the event of emergency. Four educators from Blue Hills, meanwhile, applied to use $2,000 to buy the DVR and hard drive system needed to enhance the school's currently-existing security camera system, according to an announcement by Morrissey's office Monday. District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey launched a new way for Norfolk County businesses to deal with bad checks this week. “The existing ways of dealing with bounced checks has left a lot of merchants, tradesmen and small businesses frustrated and still out their money,” District Attorney Morrissey said. “This kind of crime is an indirect theft from the honest customers who have to pay higher prices to cover the loss.
