Pakeen Farm Begins its Christmas Tree Season

Pick your own tree from a number of varieties.

Pakeen Farm on Elm Street in Canton began it's Christmas Tree season over the weekend. Every year the Pakeen Farm invites area residents into their fields to pick out your perfect Christmas tree while taking in the brisk New England air and then joining them at the barn for hot cocoa. Pakeen grows their own Choose & Cut Christmas Trees right there on the several acres that their farm has on Elm Street in Canton. Choose and Cut trees as well as Freshly Cut trees, wreaths, roping and other holiday decorations are available. Each tree is nurtured for over eight years before it is tall enough to sell. 5 Things, Nov 8: Pakeen Farm Still Has Multi-Farm Vegetable Shares

1. Pumpkin season at Pakeen Farm came to an end this past weekend, but there are still pro-rated shares available from their multi-farm vegetable C.S.A. Multi Farm means that, in addition to the crops grown at Pakeen farm, each week's vegetable share includes produce from some other regional farms. It is a more diverse, more bountiful, and a more consistent vegetable share than what they had provided in the past.  2. A 10:30 a.m. exercise class will be held at the Blue Hills Wellness Center? 3. Pakeen Farm on Elm Street

Since the 1800's and owned by the same family.

Pakeen Farm is located at 109 Elm St. in Canton.  Just 20 minutes outside Boston, the Farm is 150 acres and owned by a family who started the farm in the 1800's. Owner Dave Bihldorff, along with his wife and mother, are carrying on the family tradition, yet with a new twist. A few years ago they decided that they wanted the farm to be a self sustaining year-round business.  "During the Christmas season, we sell trees. We grow thousands [of trees], which take eight years [for each one] to grow. People come and actually cut down their own tree," said Bihldorff. Massachusetts Celebrates September as Apple Month

The DAR contributed this press release. With local apples ready for picking and in celebration of an abundant crop expected this year, Department of Agricultural Resources (DAR) Commissioner Scott J. Soares urges residents to support Massachusetts apple growers by visiting local orchards, farm stands and farmers’ markets for their favorite apple varieties. In Canton, folks can buy their fresh produce at the Canton Farmers Market, Brookwood Farm and Pakeen Farm.
