'Upscale Asian Restaurant' Coming to Canton

The restaurant is slated to open at Cobb's Corner in the former Talbot's storefront sometime in the spring.

Canton Gourmet has a plan, and a permission, to open at Cobb's Corner in the former Talbot's location. Selectmen have approved an all-alcohol license for the establishment. The owners, who have similar restaurants in Boston, Framingham and Swampscott, plan an "upscale Asian cuisine." That translates to a sushi bar, hibachi tables and a sit-down dining room. The menu will blend Japanese and Chinese dishes. If the license receives approval from the state's Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission, the owners will request from the town a common victualler license and building permits. A spring opening is anticipated. In other news: Selectmen have changed the parking pattern on Ames Avenue and approved a liquor license for a new restaurant: …

Memoirs from Motherhood: The Parenting Patch

In Search of Restaurants for Tiny Diners

Canton offers a host of family and kid-friendly spots to eat.

On a recent family outing in Canton with my two little ones in tow, we were suddenly struck by hunger pangs that had us looking for an impromptu place to have lunch.  There are lots of great family-friendly spots to dine at in the area but we figured we should try a new place for once.   A quick search had us set our sights on The Suffolk Grille on Rt 138. I had not been there since the days when it was the old Howard Johnson’s and figured it would be kid-friendly. I was a bit surprised when we headed in the door with our crew to see this place was significantly more upscale than I was expecting for a lunch with two toddlers.  Every table had a glass top and crisp white linen tablecloth.  An oriental rug covered the floor beneath the …

Award-winning, fall-off-the-bone ribs, pulled pork sandwiches, cornbread and BBQ beans are just a few of the tasty offerings residents and barbeque lovers can now enjoy right in Canton. New England BBQ and Catering LLC opened its doors on Jackson Street two months ago. The catering and take-out restaurant is located directly across the street from the commuter rail station at 120 Jackson Street. Farrin, a Malden resident who has been competing for the past 14 years in BBQ competitions across the country, co-owns New England BBQ with Canton resident Brendan Burek. Burek …

Where to Ring in the New Year in Canton

Celebrate and welcome 2011 at local establishments.

The end of 2010 has finally come. This final week, for some, will be spent regaining a proper sense of appetite after last weekend's Christmas feasting; for others, it will entail thorough strategizing regarding just how to displace the drifts of snow surrounding porches and driveways; and many Canton children will spend this week free from the burdens of backpacks and homework, focusing instead on zooming down hills on sleds and building snow forts. The bustle of December is fading and daily life is slipping back into normalcy, but there is no reason that the holiday season should lose momentum as January approaches and the end of school break looms. By the time Friday night rolls around, town residents will want to be prepared for more …
