BHR Student Builds Darth Vader Replica Blue Hills Regional Technical School junior Eric Manning of Canton has built a nearly life-size model of Star Wars villain Darth Vader. Made out of plastic tubing, wood and aluminum parts, the robot can move its one arm and speak when controlled by a computer. Manning, who began the project during his freshman year, plans to make the robot completely autonomous and computer-controlled. Vader currently keeps watch over the Engineering Technology department at BHR. Spare Change? Support CHS! Turn your coins into cash and The Bank of Canton will donate its service fee to Canton High School. The bank branch at 557 Washington Street has a new coin-counting machine, where Bank of Canton customers can turn their coins into cash free of charge. Non-customers are subject to a 6% fee of all coins counted, but Bank of Canton is donating that entire fee to the Canton High School general fund for the month of December. DESE Coordinated Program Review in January The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education will be doing a Coordinated Program Review of the Canton Public Schools this school year. Updates from the Canton School Committee: Cash Capital, CHS Parent Info Night

The school committee is meeting on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m.

The Canton School Committee will be reviewing capital budget requests for the upcoming fiscal year at Thursday’s meeting. According to Superintendent of Schools Jeff Granatino, the committee started to review the requests earlier this month. The committee has $365,000 in the budget for cash capital projects, but $1 million in requests, he said. Also at Thursday’s meeting, the committee will be discussing Annual Town Meeting warrant articles. The committee has until January 3 to submit them. The Canton School Committee is meeting Thursday, December 15, at 7:00 p.m. at Canton High School.

Winning Warriors, Canton's Blue Hills Regional takes Super Bowl title.

Blue Hills Wins! The Blue Hills Regional Technical School Warriors prevailed in the Division 4A Super Bowl at Bentley University on Saturday, beating Cathedral High School, 16-14. Their victory followed a tense playoff game on Tuesday, which they won 25-22 over East Boston, on a field goal kicked by David Neil. Congratulations Warriors on an outstanding season! Blue Hills Wins, Advances to Semi-Finals The Blue Hills Regional Technical School Warriors won over the Bristol-Plymouth Craftsmen on Thanksgiving Day, 38-6. With a record of 10-1, the Warriors will advance to the Division 4A state semi-finals tomorrow, where they will play East Boston. Good luck, Warriors! Mass Hospital Students Visit State House Massachusetts Hospital School students visited the Massachusetts State House on October 17. Jude O'Hara, Chair of the Board of Trustees, and Lisa Spindler, parent representative, presented on MHS programs and the school’s significance to the children and families served by the school. Blue Hills Regional Accepting Construction Applications Blue Hills Regional Technical School is accepting applications for house construction or large addition projects for the next school year. Residents or land owners within the nine district towns of Avon, Braintree, Canton, Dedham, Holbrook, Milton, Norwood, Randolph and Westwood are eligible to apply. Applicants must be residents or land owners for a minimum of five year, and submit applications no later than January 15, 2012. Blue Hills students in the Construction Technology program work on the projects at a cost of 25% of the price of building materials handled. “Once Upon a Mattress” at CHS This Weekend Canton Drama presents the musical “Once Upon a Mattress” at the Canton High School Auditorium this Friday and Saturday. A musical adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, “The Princess and the Pea,” the musical tells the story of Prince Dauntless’ search for a wife, and the plucky princess Winnifred (or “Fred”) who swims the castle moat in her quest to be the lucky girl. Blue Hills’ Coach Catabia Honored by Patriots Blue Hills Regional High School’s Ed Catabia has been named the New England Patriots High School Football Coach of the Week in recognition of his team’s 24-0 victory over Diman Regional High School on Friday, Oct. 28. The New England Patriots Charitable Foundation will donate $1,000 to Blue Hills Regional High School’s football program in Catabia’s name in recognition of his Coach of the Week selection. Blue Hills Regional Announces John and Abigail Adams Scholars Fifty-three Blue Hills Regional Technical School seniors are recipients of the 2012 Adams Scholarships. Included among the recipients is Canton resident Shannon Green, who studies Health Assisting at the school.
