The worst of the weather is expected to hit during the morning commute, according to forecasts.
It will be one messy commute for residents in Canton Tuesday morning. Anywhere from 2-4 inches will fall in Canton, according to WHDH Weather, with some areas west receiving anywhere from 4-8 inches. Snow is expected to mix with sleet and rain inland by midday. A winter storm warning was put into effect for Western Norfolk County from 2 p.m. Monday p.m. through 11 a.m. Tuesday. Meanwhile, a winter storm advisory was put into effect for Eastern Norfolk County through 8 p.m. Tuesday, according to WHDH. The good news? Anywhere from 3-5 inches of snow could fall in the area; a Winter Storm Watch is now in effect.
Another winter storm is headed Canton's way. Unlike the blizzard of 2013, though, this incoming storm is expected to bring only upwards of 3-5 inches of the white stuff. This storm will comprise a mix of wind, rain wet snow, the accumulations of which will take place mostly along and outside I-95 Thursday, according to WHDH. We could see more than two feet of snow.
If you've been talking about what a calm winter we've had, you've spoken too soon. Just a couple days after the 35th anniversary of the Blizzard of '78, New England is expected to get a blizzard. The Canton area could see more than 2 feet of snow, the largest snow accumulation since 2010. The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard watch for most of eastern Massachusetts including Canton, calling it a "potential historic winter storm". Between 12 and 24 inches of snow accumulation is expected, beginning Friday morning.
As of Wednesday afternoon, the National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Watch for Canton and the rest of Massachusetts effective from Friday morning through Saturday afternoon. According to NWS, heavy snow will impact much of eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island, with accumulation of 12 to 24 inches with the potential for blizzard conditions. Light snow is expected to begin by Friday morning and increase in intensity throughout the day with the heaviest snowfall occurring Friday night into Saturday morning. Snowfall rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour are possible during that time. Forecasters are warning the timing of an approaching snowstorm may make Monday afternoon and evening commute slippery.
There may be an inch of snow on the ground on Monday evening during the evening commute, according to forecasters at WHDH-TV. "Don't expect a ton of snow, but a general 1-3" falls late Monday afternoon, through the evening, producing slick roads, perhaps in time for the ride home from work," writes meterologist Chris Lambert in his blog. Even though not much snow will fall, Lambert said that the snow "will create slick spots on the roads Monday evening and Monday night." A snowy end to the week could herald more wintery conditions for Canton, according to the National Weather Service. The week kicked off with a wintry start, as several inches of snow landed on the area by Tuesday morning. While Tuesday night through Thursday are predicted to be clear, temperatures will climb only between 1 and 18 degrees.
