Despite an initial forecast of 1-3 inches of snow, Canton may get a little more than expected.
Originally thought to be a small storm that would drop only 3-5 inches of snow in Canton, a new forecast from WHDH shows the town getting closer to six or more inches through Friday in the area. In addition, the National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Norfolk County until 1 p.m. Friday. The warning claims the potential for anywhere from 4-8 inches of snow in the area, with a low probability of 10 inches in some isolated areas. According to the warning, the heaviest accumulations are expected tonight into Friday morning but some accumulations will occur today especially across the elevated interior areas of southeast Massachusetts. Winds are expected to hit 15 to 25mph, with gusts up to 45mph. Some power outages were…

Weather forecasters are predicting at least six inches of snow with a foot of snow possible.
Will Canton get pummeled this weekend with several inches of snow or will rain be mixed in? The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch from Saturday afternoon through Sunday afternoon. The NWS said 6 inches of snow or more is possible and warned of heavy wet snow that may fall at 1 to 2 inches per hour. Snow may mix with rain in the Canton area. The NWS warned that the heavy wet snow could bring down tree limbs and result in scattered power outages. Snowfall estimates for Canton as of Friday range from 6 to 10 inches, according to reports. Channel 7 meteorologist Pete Bouchard wrote on his weather blog: Storm start-up still looks like Saturday afternoon. We'll still be able to get around and the amounts will be light …

A few Canton residents uploaded videos to YouTube over the weekend, showing off the snow outside their house and having some fun too.
With snow coming down last Friday and Saturday, some videos are beginning to appear on YouTube showcasing the storm and some post storm activites. One video shows a time lapse of the storm over a 24-hour period. To see the videos, click on the gallery above.

Do you agree with the governor's decision or was it too drastic?
All non-emergency drivers were ordered off the roads on Friday when Gov. Deval Patrick issued an executive order banning travel during the blizzard. (Editor's note: The ban is lifted statewide as of 4 p.m. Saturday.) Patrick's executive order is being praised by some and bashed by others, reported The Boston Globe. While former Massachusetts Gov. Michael Dukakis, who was in charge of the commonwealth during the Blizzard of ’78, praised the governor’s move, others called the order “tyrannical” and say the strict ban and hefty fines were too much, according to The Globe. Those caught violating the ban would face up to a year in jail and a $500 fine. What do you think? Do you agree with the governor’s decision or do you think the travel ban …

Let's measure the blizzard through lawn ornaments!
We at Patch like to have fun – even when we’re covering a story as big as the Blizzard of ’13! So when the biggest storm in years (potentially in the history of Boston weather) is headed our way, we get into battle mode – and even get a little silly. That’s what this idea is about – and we want you to take part too! A fun way we want to track the storm across Massachusetts is through lawn ornaments. They serve a purpose in the spring and summer, but often feel left out in the cold of winter. Not anymore. We are posting photos of lawn ornaments throughout Massachusetts to highlight snowfall across the commonwealth during and after the storm. All you need to do is hit the Upload Photos and Videos button and upload your own. If we’re stuck at…
With another historic blizzard hitting Massachusetts, let's take a look back at the Blizzard of '78.
The Blizzard of ’78 has to be the most photographed and videoed winter storm in New England history. Images of stranded cars, battered coastlines and children playing in giant snowdrifts are all vivid memories of that historic storm. As New Englanders, we commemorated the 35th anniversary of the storm earlier this week – and now Mother Nature is celebrating herself with what could be one of the biggest snowstorms in history. As we hunker down for this storm, let’s take a look back at the Blizzard of ’78. Here are some fun videos from TV and radio broadcasts before, during and after the storm, as well as home movies on YouTube… Let’s start off with the TV news weather reports Here’s a radio broadcast from WBZ An old WEEI broadcast during …
A blizzard warning is in effect until 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9.
OK, so that two feet of snow we were preparing to get last night? Better add another foot to that. The National Weather Service on Friday morning adjusted its predicted snowfall totals to three feet. The timing of the snowfall is roughly the same: with light snow falling in Worcester, Middlesex and Norfolk counties Friday morning, and becoming heavy later in the afternoon and into the Friday evening commute. So, as WHDH meteorologist Jeremy Reiner notes in his blog, you have a "few hours left this morning" to run some errands, but travel will deteriorate this afternoon. By 7 tonight, most towns will have 2 to 4 inches, Reiner predicted. The storm should be the worst from 7 p.m. Friday to noon tomorrow, when snow could fall at a rate of 2 …

The fall snow storm will bring back the white stuff to Canton.
Some may call it a wicked trick. Others may call it a spook-tacular treat. Either way, get the shovels ready, because Canton will be getting hit by the fall snowstorm tonight. Although it is still autumn, and the leaves on the trees have barely changed colors, Canton is expected to get several inches of snow tonight. The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory for "heavy wet snow and strong winds" for Norfolk County and surrounding counties. The advisory is in effect from 6:00 p.m. tonight (Saturday) until 8:00 a.m. Sunday. The storm is expected to bring heavy, wet snow, two to four inches of powder, and strong wind gusts–the perfect recipe for downed lines, tree damage and power outages. The NWS is predicting wind gusts …

People should use their common sense in situations like this--but there are always some who won't and will endanger others in the process. The ban was good in that respect, and the $500 fine certainly should have made folks think twice if they were hesitating over driving or staying home for no particular reason. However, the threatened jail time was absurd--and enough's been said about that here…   more ›
