Their teacher Lauren Weidmuller said they feel privileged to do so. The fourth graders rotate their service in groups of three, ensuring deliveries happen every week. Traveling with Principal Charlotte Kelly, first stop is Canton’s Council on Aging, then on to  three home visits to drop off food, talk with people and help out with whatever is needed.  “They love seeing smiles when they walk in; they love bringing light to someone’s day,” Weidmuller said. Students at St. John's in Canton Raise Money for Dana-Farber Pancreatic Cancer Research

Canton students raised money this month to help a friend with pancreatic cancer.

By Eileen M. St. James In honor of a special friend of St. John the Evangelist School, who is battling pancreatic cancer, students found ways to show their support. Sixth grade students, Owen Brady and Michael Hartman, sold purple bracelets to the students and staff to raise money. Purple is the color that represents pancreatic cancer fundraising.  The young men sold out of the bracelets in two days and raised $460 that will be donated to Dana-Farber Pancreatic Cancer Research.  Eight girls wore purple on May 19 and had their hair cut by Savoy Salon in Canton.  Savoy donated their services and sent the lengths of hair to Locks of Love and Pantene Beautiful Lengths. St. John’s Eighth Graders Leave Their Legacy

Students at St. John the Evangelist School in Canton work on their legacy projects.

When the eighth grade class at St. John’s School in Canton returned in September for their last year before high school, their teacher asked them: What will you leave behind? Most of the students had been at St. John’s School, the parish school of St. John the Evagelist Church, for 10 years. The school emphasizes Christian service, starting with community service projects in the first grade. Eighth grade teachers Lauren Solomon and Christine Bowers always stress the importance of the final year at St. John School, Solomon said. “We explain to the students this is their time to shine and to leave a lasting impression on the school,” Solomon said. Eighth grader Christina Guccione did not know, at first, how she wanted to leave her legacy. …

Giving Thanks

Taking time to share the spirit of the holiday, students at St. John the Evangelist School in Canton participated in an all-school prayer service Wednesday. Before school let out for the Thanksgiving break, students and staff took time to celebrate Thanksgiving.

Students Celebrating Thanksgiving at St. John's

The students at St. John the Evangelist School in Canton are gearing up for the holiday with a Thanksgiving feast and play.

Donning their homemade pilgrim hats and costumes, the children at St. John the Evangelist School in Canton gathered together to celebrate Thanksgiving with a feast fit for a king. Enjoying turkey and all the trimmings, the students chowed down on a traditional Thanksgiving dinner Tuesday at school. To commemorate the holiday, students also watched a play performed by members of the fourth grade class.
