Poll: How Far in Advance Do You Plan for Valentine's Day?

Did you make reservations for your favorite restaurant months ago? Or are you flying by the seat of your pants on the day? Take the poll and add your comments.

Valentine's Day is on Tuesday, February 14. One week from today. You have been warned. There's still plenty of time to make reservations at a restaurant, order flowers, write a poem, or organize a scavenger hunt for the love of your life. The size or price (or lack of) isn't always important. Macaroni necklaces are some of the most cherished gifts ever, but probably if you haven't been married to the person for 40 years...  Check out Patch all week for Valentine's Day ideas and suggestions. And let us know what you're doing for Valentine's Day in the comments section.

Canton-based Dunkin' Donuts Gets in the Valentine's Day Spirit with Heart-Shaped Treats

In time for Valentine’s Day, eat your hearts out with two varieties of Dunkin’ Donuts’ heart-shaped donuts.

February may be the shortest month of the year, but at Dunkin’ Donuts it might also be the sweetest, thanks to the return of heart-shaped donuts. Just in time for Valentine’s Day season, Dunkin’ Donuts has two delicious ways for sweethearts to show their love.  The Cupid’s Choice Donut is a heart-shaped donut filled with Bavarian Kreme, topped with strawberry icing and a festive mix of pink, white and red heart-shaped sprinkles. The new Chocolate Heart Donut is a chocolate frosted heart-shaped donut with vanilla buttercreme filling, topped with chocolate chips. Both donuts will be available at participating Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants nationwide through the end of February. “We introduced heart-shaped donuts last Valentine’s Day as our …

Teddy Bear Tea Delights Children in Canton

Mass Audubon Visual Arts Center hosts an afternoon tea for children and a favorite stuffed companion.

I had the recent pleasure of attending the Mass Audubon Society’s Teddy Bear Tea at the Visual Arts Center in Canton on Sunday. Sadly, my daughter was feeling under the weather so she and her teddy bear were not able to attend, but I know she would have loved it as much as the group of children who were there did.  Mini sandwiches, tea, sweets, crafts and teddy bears galore, what’s not to like, one might ask? With the popularity and appeal of places like the American Girl Cafes, which offers children the opportunity to dine with their doll, it’s no surprise that this Teddy Bear Tea would be a hit with the younger crowd. Indeed, the event did not disappoint. Many children arrived in their Sunday best attire each clutching a special stuffed …

A delight for children, families and all those special teddy bears.

The Mass Audubon Society Visual Arts Center held a Valentine's Day-themed Teddy Bear Tea for children and their special, cuddly friends on Sunday. The estate house was transformed into an elegant tea room with tables dressed and topped with nice linens and china by the roaring fireplaces throughout the house. There was no shortage of things to eat from assorted tea sandwiches, which included many choices from the traditional cucumber and cream cheese sandwiches and smoked salmon to the not-so-traditional but very kid-friendly, bear-shaped peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, teas, hot cocoa, sherbet punch and all kinds of brownies, cupcakes, and even teddy bear shaped Peeps. Fun and delicious!

What a great afternoon for kids of all ages. The Visual Art Center Estate House was beautifully decorated for a very special tea with great kid friendly finger food including adorable PB&J teddy bear sandwiches. The activities were perfect and children enjoined the scavenger hunt introduction to the amazing Ink, Internet, & Identification - Catherine Hamiltion exhibition in the gallery.   more ›

Canton Couple Celebrates 60th Anniversary This Year

Dr. and Mrs. Theodore Goodman talk about the keys to their successful marriage on Valentine's Day.

They were set up on a blind date in 1951, and 60 years later they are still going strong. Doris and Ted Goodman say the secret to a successful life together is to give each other respect, do not go to bed mad and do not hold a grudge. “You can’t stay together for 60 years if you don’t have some sort of tolerance of different ideas…and respect for each other is very important,” said Doris, adding the couple was friends first, though Ted argues he fell in love with her the moment he met her. The couple met at a fraternity party while students at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Their names were matched up alphabetically when the list of boys was aligned with the list of girls to see which boy would invite which girl to the dance. …

Canton Company Helps Couples Connect

Husband and wife team operates Marriage Labs.

For John and Gail Kaplan, the husband and wife co-directors of Marriage Labs, Valentine’s Day is a “time for couples to connect.”  John notes that women tend to get more excited about Valentine’s Day, while men often see it more as a holiday that boosts Hallmark’s sales. Whether you choose flowers, candy or cards, the Kaplans describe Valentine’s Day as an important “point of connection” for couples; “an opportunity to honor each other.” Valentine’s Day is an opportunity to make your partner feel good and to let them know you love them. An opportunity that people often miss, they said. Gail teaches four specific points of connection that couples have throughout the day, as well as weekly, monthly and yearly points of connection. The …
