Chai Jewish Center Hosts Annual Purim Celebration

The Canton center is hosting the annual event March 8.

Celebrate the Jewish holiday of Purim at the Annual Community Celebration with the Chai Jewish Center in Canton. The festivities will begin at 5:00 p.m. at the Center, 580 Washington St., on Thursday, March 8 at 5.00 p.m. Enjoy a delicious buffet dinner, Megillah Reading, Hamentashen, music, entertainment and activities for the kids.  Adults and kids are invited to come in costume and receive a Purim gift. All are welcome to join, regardless of Jewish affiliation or background. The event is $10 per person and $18 per person after February 26. Folks can R.S.V.P. by Sunday February 26. Canton Chai Center’s Senior Buddy Program Pays Big Dividends

The Canton Chai Center pairs seniors with younger volunteers in new program.

By Dr. Rebecca Housel   The Canton Chai Center, founded and run by Rabbi Mendy Horowitz and his wife, Rivka, helped commemorate the ten-year anniversary of 9-11 by creating a new Senior Buddy Program, matching younger program-volunteers with seniors. Since its inception, the program has helped local seniors maintain strong social connections, something medicine touts as necessary to a longer, healthier life. Senior buddies and their volunteers get together to play games, that not only help keep senior-brains sharp, but also serve as a method for the volunteers to learn more about their buddies. Community Purim Celebration Fun for Everyone

Residents celebrate the Purim holiday in Canton.

By Rabbi Mendy Horowitz The Community Celebration sponsored by the Chai Jewish Center and local businesses was enjoyed by young and old alike. Over 200 local residents joined together to celebrate the Jewish holiday of Purim at Canton High School on March 20. Admission was free and many enjoyed the delicious buffet dinner and traditional Hamentashen. Participants sang and danced to joyous Klezmer tunes as the band played the afternoon away. The young and young at heart enjoyed watching Peter Panic ride the unicycle and juggle balls and swords in his mouth. There were lots of crafts, carnival booths and prizes.
