Preview Party Friday Night
The Winterfest at Mass Hospital School began Friday, Nov. 30, and is a weekend long event which includes a sleigh ride, miniature horses, a breakfast with Santa, Festival of Trees and Doors, Hayrides with Santa, musical entertainment and ending on Sunday, Dec. 2, with a Jingle Bell 5K Fun Run. Friday evening, Nov. 30, there was a preview party in the marvelous theater building on the Mass Hospital School grounds. As you entered the building you came upon a room filled with lit up Christmas trees, each donated and decorated by different companies. The trees will be raffled off the week of Dec. 7. Changing Perceptions and Celebrating Differences Through Art
Imaginative and observationally inspired works by the students at the Mass Hospital School are on display through Nov 30 at the Akillian Gallery at Massasoit Community College. There are forty pieces which include monoprints, paintings, flower rubbings, collage and textile art. The mission of The Massachusetts Hospital School, founded in 1907, is to provide medical, habilitative, rehabilitative, recreational, educational and vocational services to children and young adults with multiple disabilities and assisting them to achieve their maximum level of independence in all aspects of life. On Friday, Aug. 10, the Massachusetts Hospital School's celebrated it's 29th Annual Summer Day Program. The Annual Family Day allows guests to meet with counselors, nurses and specialists and see what the children have experienced during their last seven weeks of camp, including events such as horseback riding and arts and crafts. "This school helped me how to become independent," John Mariani, a graduate of the Mass Hospital School said. "Now I have my own apartment and live on my own. I've continued my studies, after doing well on my MCAS tests, at the Massasoit Community College just up the road." The Massachusetts Department of Public Health, the Department of Developmental Services and Tufts University recently celebrated the opening of their new dental clinic at the Massachusetts Hospital School. This clinic is the newest addition to the Tufts Dental School Division of Special Care and Dentistry program, which provides dental services to the developmentally disabled. The Special Care program treats an average of 10,000 patients annually and is comprised of seven facilities, making it the largest program of its kind in the country. Representative William C. Many people look for ways to retreat from the stresses of work and home lives. Three years ago, one Massachusetts Hospital School teacher seized the rare opportunity to turn her way of de-stressing into a business. “Some people drink, some people smoke, some people eat, and I make belt buckles,” said Sally Goldfarb, founder of B-Buckled, who sells belts and belt buckles at craft shows, events for charity and out of her own home. “I’d always collected broken pieces of jewelry and odd things,” she recalled. “Every now and then I’d sit down and sort through it just to relax.” Though Goldfarb has had a lifelong passion for crafting, she said, “Never did I ever think that someone would actually pay money for a craft.” She was inspired in part …
