If you spot a Massachusetts state trooper camped out by the side of the road somewhere in Norfolk County this weekend, he or she may be doing more than just watching for speedsters. Colonel Timothy P. Alben, superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police, announced a sobriety checkpoint will be established on an undisclosed public way in Norfolk County from Friday, April 5 into Saturday, April 6. Alben said the purpose of the checkpoint is to further educate motorists and strengthen public awareness to the need of both detecting drivers who are operating under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol and taking them off the road. In a recent study done by the Foundation called "County Health Rankings and Roadmaps," Norfolk ended up third in the state, trailing only Dukes County in first place and Middlesex County in second. Canton is part of Norfolk County. In measures ranging from adult obesity and insurance coverage to premature death and teen birth rates, Norfolk County was lower than the state average. A routine sobriety checkpoint for drivers in Norfolk County is slated for the holiday weekend.
Drivers in the Norfolk County area should take note that Massachusetts State Police will hold a sobriety checkpoint Saturday night into Sunday, Nov. 24 and 25, according to an announcement from Colonel Timothy P. Alben, Superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police. "The purpose is to further educate the motoring public and strengthen the public’s awareness to the need of detecting and removing those motorists who operate under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs from the roadways," the statement reads. Dibella, 22, of 86 Prospect St., Canton, was arraigned on charges of driving with license suspended, speeding, negligent driving, and a motor vehicle lights violation. The case was continued to March 14 for a pretrial hearing in Stoughton District Court. The charges stem from a Sept. 2, 2011 incident at 2 a.m. on Elm Street in Canton when police spotted Dibella's vehicle with only one headlight on and traveling at a high rate of speed near an NSTAR detail working in an area where the road had been closed. O’Donnell is offering the public the opportunity to receive real estate statistics, news and announcements from the Registry of Deeds through electronic mail. Register O’Donnell said, “The modernization initiatives implemented at the Registry of Deeds has computerized our land records. The staff at the Registry is able to compile the real estate statistics related to transactions occurring within the county”. McGrath, 47, of 61 Ohio St., Marshfield, was found not guilty by a jury in Quincy District Court of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs as a second offense and not guilty of possession of Clonazepam. But the jury found McGrath guilty of negligent operation of a motor vehicle, though not responsible for speeding. A judge sentenced him to a year in the Norfolk County House of Correction, suspended, and probation until June 14, 2013 on the guilty finding. As part of his ongoing efforts to make his office even more consumer user-friendly for the general public, Norfolk County Sheriff Michael G. Bellotti has installed a new inmate account kiosk in Quincy. The kiosk gives family and friends of inmates who deposit money in phone or canteen accounts the option of doing so in Quincy instead of driving to the jail in Dedham to use the kiosk there. The new kiosk is located in the front lobby at Sheriff Bellotti’s Community Corrections office at 191 Parkingway in Quincy. It is open to the public from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Canton Rhode Island man faces OUI charge Marc Marshall, 61, of 39 Fair Street Front, Warwick, R.I., was arraigned on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
