ReplyThe Kids who died in Montana fell into a pond and drowned so that case while very sad and tragic is not really relevant to the issue of safety when Sledding Down Chemung Hill. Its more about pond and skating safety. Do you think the kids should wear helmets when sledding on Chemung Hill? I think that might be a big help to improve safety for the kids without spoiling their fun. Check out this music video of sledding on Chemung Hill there are some great wipe outs including my own daughter Michela on the gray sled with the blue jacket. Right now she is scared to go back as there is a rumor going around the Hansen school among the kids that three kids have died while sledding on Chemung Hill. I believe the truth is that one young girl from Canton did die in 1972 after hitting a flag pole which was remover after the incident. Does anyone have any more information on this incident?
I was surprised when I went to take photos at how dangerous the hill seemed there were blood spots all over the snow! I think the main danger is being hit by another kid with a runner type sled. I would let my daughter go again with a helmet on and me going with here instead of standing back and making photos.Facebook group called Chemung Hill Sledding Survivors

ReplyHi All
This sound like a typical 3 year old don't be alarmed. Step one would be to get rid of the crib most of which are plagued with inherent safety risks and have been recently redesigned.http://www.cpsc.gov/info/cribs/recalls.html
Then with a choice between the floor and her new bed your daughter should start using her new bed.
Good Luck!

In 30 years of working as a photojournalist I have never felt so personally saddened by any story I have covered. I was there it was an accident. I hope the Lutz family is able to someday have peace in their hearts and continue their lives. KW
